On one of the last days in Germany, Jan Flynn (a fellow researcher and friend at the ILA conference) and I decided to go for an adventure. Jan had a plan to take the train out to a little village she had been to before, just a short ride from Frankfurt. While we didn't find the village we had originally planned to see (oops), we decided to make the best of it, took the train to the last stop, got off, and set out to explore this unanticipated little village.

First we found this great little cafe on one of the side streets and after visiting the small farmers' market and local drug and grocery stores (have to check out the local shops), we had a nice coffee and pastry to start out the morning.
After shopping and eating, we found the central park in town along with the local art museum. Kermit had to point the direction to the art.

To round out our incredibly luck day, the town we just happened to visit just happened to be having a celebration/town fundraiser that very afternoon. The "festival" started out with a local band marching in and giving a nice concert (an interesting mix of broadway musicals).
There were also a few tents with people selling food to raise money for the local Chamber of Commerce. As luck would have it, one of the tents was of course brats and beer! Jan and I decided to share a mug and a dog. I loved the brat and even liked the beer! Guess it really is better in Germany.

All in all, it was a completely unexpected and wonderful day!
