Later in the day, we attended a lecture at the University of Frankfurt and enjoyed a small reception afterward. The lecture and reception were hosted by Margarete Imhof, the incoming president of ILA (the conference we are attending), and her department. It was nice to see the inside of one of the universities and to have hosts for our visit.
This is the front of the University of Frankfurt (official name on the front of the building). During WWII the building was used as a hospital; someone also told us that it was originally built as a Dow Chemical building.
This is the back of the building. Wouldn't it be great to have this cafe and courtyard outside our building at Purdue?
Engrossed in deep conversation with Margaret Fitch-Hauser and Jan Flynn (our adopted mothers for the trip); Margaret was one of our advisors at Auburn, and Jan is her business partner.

After the lecture and reception we walked around downtown Frankfurt. There were several vendors selling food and drink; we ate ice cream as an appetizer. Ashley photographed lots of people and their fashion - she'll be posting a blog entry devoted to German fashion later.
Across the street from our hotel is a wonderful Indian restaurant where we decided to have dinner with Margaret and Jan.
