Christmas cruisin'

On the 7th day of Christmas my in-laws gave to me ... a 7-night cruise from New Orleans to Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. So it doesn't rhyme, but it sure was fun. Between December 16 and 23 the extended Jones Clan (Chip, Christy, Britton, Whitney, Boston, Ashley, Graham) spent our time on the Norwegian Spirit.

At first, having to wear a life preserver at all times was odd, but we got used to it. You'd be surprised that no one else followed that rule ... I mean, you're on a boat folks!

New Orleans at night as we are leaving ...

We spent alot of time playing Shuffleboard ... Ashley was quite good, and Britton plotted how he could build a 25x10 yard deck in his parents' backyard so we could continue the family competition.

The main obstacle playing Shuffleboard on board is figuring out which way the boat is leaning while you are sending the puck to the other side.

Us sitting on the deck, enjoying the warm weather (at this point it had snowed 6-10 inches in Lafayette) ...

These are two cute couples we met onboard ...

Keeping your balance while the ship is moving (and your eyes are closed) is harder than you'd think.

And it apparently takes alot of energy out of you...

We had suspicions that Whitney is a closet Poker shark.
Honduras is behind me ... not sure what I was doing.

Bebe is much loved.

My best Titanic impression (and Whitney's best "can we go now" face)

Most enjoyable was the ability to get dressed up and go out to a nice dinner without worrying about who would pick up the check.

You can see our reflections in the ornaments (First is Whitney and Boston, Second is me and Ashley)

Cozumel -

Our ship is in the background of the first two pictures ... makes a good promotional photo don't you think? The last photo is the back of the ship - we ate dinner in the dining room (Windows) twice.
My cool new $7 sunglasses from Cozumel -
Britton picked up some white whiskers in Cozumel...

On our way back to New Orleans ... it was 85 degrees, sunny, and the weather was beautiful (of course, not as beautiful as the woman in this picture, but a very nice day nonetheless). On our first night we were bothered by really bad Karaoke from the pub above our room - after a quick complaint to the Manager, we were shifted to a nicer room with this view.
Overall, it was a nice trip. We got to spend time with family, away from cell phones, email, and work. A little friendly competition in the form of Poker and Shuffleboard and some goofing around was just what the doctor ordered. We're now fully rested and ready to finish our time at Purdue (and in the process have our first child). Hope you all had an enjoyable holiday season - Happy New Year!
