Ashley hatched this great scheme to have our first child "born over Southern soil." Though she'll admit the idea is a bit "crazy," she says it's still oddly comforting nonetheless. She borrowed the idea from someone she heard of from Texas who put a jar of Texas dirt under her hospital bed during the birth of her child born somewhere other than the great state of Texas. So, during Christmas break while we were down South, we got some Southern soil.

Ashley and I had to both gather some dirt from my maternal grandparents' back yard ... my grandfather (Big Daddy) made sure we dug "real Andalusia soil" - thus, we are digging from the creek bed as opposed to his flower bed. I suppose he is as "crazy" as we are, though neither Mama II nor Big Daddy thought it was a crazy idea. Actually, it made perfect sense to both of them.

Washing off tools is important ... not "crazy" at all.
