Since New Year's, Ashley has been busy thinking about, planning, and executing home improvements. Unlike Tim the Toolman, however, she has failed to blow anything up or catch anything on fire. Less fun, more safe.
The most recent project was a bathroom makeover ... or at least as much of a makeover as we want to do given our status as renters. The mats (a less expensive option than finding a square rug) and curtain came from Target; the sideways entry mirror came from the storage room at the back of the house - much better than the 3"x8" mirror Ashley had to stand on her tiptoes to see in to.

She also made Eden a new cold-weather sleep sack ... Eden's pretty cute as a giraffe, huh?

She also finally remedied the pesky "our neighbors can see us through our dining room window" problem by getting curtains and hemming them out of the reach a curious, crawling baby. I put up the rods. Sounds easy ... until you realize that we have cornices ... which makes using an electric drill impossible and a hammer a chore.

While she was sewing and decorating, she decided to make Eden a few new items. When Eden gets out of the bath we wrap her up in a towel which, until last week, was a duck. She outgrew the duck towel. So, being the Martha Stewart that she is, Ashley made Eden a new towel, complete with hood and embroidery. [Editor's Note: It's just a full-sized towel with a hand towel sewed on in the middle of the long side, folded over with a semi-circle stitched in to make the hood].

Other home improvements have to do with meeting our "babyproofing" goal ... now that Eden can crawl and is pulling up on everything she sees, it is important to remove as many hazards as possible. For instance, we wouldn't want Eden crawling into the fireplace!

Or pulling flimsy shelves on top of her head (so we replaced the flimsy plastic-and-particle-board shelves at the front door with this shelving unit Ashley's granddaddy made, which we had out in the sunroom).
We're still making small improvements ... makes the place seem a little more like "ours." If you have cheap ideas for doing so, let us know!
