A very different New Year

Our original plan to celebrate New Year's Eve was to hang out with the kids at Jeremy and Sarah's, putting them to bed after a bath, then enjoying some adult time with close friends.

Then, their son Charlie got sick. We wanted nothing to do with exposing Eden to a virus if we could help it. So, our second plan was to watch football on the big screen at the 147 while Ashley updated all our still-yet-to-be posted photos from 2008.

Yesterday, we thought Eden had had a bad food reaction on Monday night. When we came home from celebrating our anniversary and checked on her, she had vomited her apples-oatmeal-cinnamon dinner. We did the usual Pedialite treatment, fed her rice cereal, made sure she kept everything down, then slowly introduced formula back into her diet. All was well.

Then, we discovered that we were wrong - not a food reaction.

We got to the 147 around 6:00, just in time to grab a bite to eat, give Eden a bath, put her to bed, and catch most of the LSU-GT game. As soon as we got home, Ashley mentioned that she did not feel well. Crud. She rested her head while I gave Eden a bath and put her to bed. About halftime, Ashley did something she had not done since 7th grade ... nope, not write one of those silly letters that asks a boy to circle "yes" or "no" ... I'll spare you the gorey details; let's just say it was a new experience in both our books.

Although we had planned to go back to Baton Rouge today, that did not happen. Instead, we extended our vacation a day at the 147, and Ashley and Eden had snack time with Gerber puffs (yes, they both were eating them). We decided to stay an extra day since driving with two sickies was not my idea of a grand New Year's Day.

As of now, Eden has kept all food and liquid down since about 9:30 a.m. Ashley has slept much of the day and is feeling slightly better. I have yet to vomit. A good day by our measure.

All in all, we're thankful that it looks like it is just a stomach bug, and that we were at least with family to help out when the sickness hit. Watching football on the big screen while Ashley and Eden napped helped get me through taking care of two sickies. Hoping your new year started a bit better than ours! God Bless, GB
