When Ashley sent her text message "Eating lunch at Primos. Leaving soon." around 11:30, I set myself up to see my family around 3:30. Then Ashley called outside of Hattiesburg to tell me about the State Trooper story. My hopes of a mid-afternoon arrival diminished, and I got a bit sad. It had been 4 days! I was starting to have withdrawals. Apparently Eden was also experiencing some withdrawal symptoms, too.
Well, they finally did arrive around 5:00 or so. Not too bad given the circumstances. At first, Eden was all smile. Then, everyone got a little loud for her taste because the screaming began. We walked to the back of the house (where it was quiet and dark), and she eventually calmed down. I was told later that the same thing happend at her party. Of course, I was relieved that she wasn't expressing her anger at me for being gone so long.
Once calmed down, Eden was entertained ...
Indeed, she put on a show for her Nona and Big Daddy by smiling, laughing, squirming, and just being cute. She especially enjoyed Big Daddy's funny faces and strange voices (perhaps they remind her of someone else who does that?).
The best introduction was to my sister's dog, Lilly. Lilly is a funny dog. She is scared of most inanimate objects. Vaccuums, brooms, mops, bicycles ... you name it, and she is afraid of it. Apparently, babies are confusing. They don't look like other people, but they move around and make weird noises. Lilly was the detective from the moment Eden entered the door. She sniffed. She licked. She wined. She walked around in circles and HAD to be wherever Eden was.
Eden, on the other hand, did not really pay much attention to Lilly ... she missed her dad too much, I think.
Sarah's boyfriend, Robbie, also came for a visit. As you can see, Eden really enjoys looking at people. Her eyes focus on the face, and her eyes scan every square inch until she seemingly has memorized its features. Robbie was no exception ...
Eden especially liked when Robbie made faces ...
Overall, it was a good first day in Mobile (especially considering how the day started). They day was long, but after she settled down it was like we were at home. She successfully traveled Hwy 98 and made it to the Bodie home. That night, bathtime and bedtime were also successful. She even slept through the night again! For that, her parents were quite thankful.
