I know what I want

This morning confirmed our suspicion ... Eden honestly does know what she wants.

Eden woke up at 7:30. So, per tradition, Ashley fixed a bottle. Ashley set the bottle on the bedside table in order to get Eden out of the crib then held Eden on the big bed. Eden leaned over toward the table, pointed at the bottle, and uttered "Eh." Ashley grabbed the bottle and fed Eden.

After the bottle, Eden leaned toward the table again and pointed. Ashely picked up a book. Although somwhat excited, Eden kept making noise, leaned toward the table, and pointed again. This time, she pointed to a particular book. When Ashley got it for her, she sat up and read it (in her own, special language of course).

After spending some time reading, it was time for Ashley to get ready ... fast forward to breakfast time ... In the kitchen, Ashley was getting Eden's breakfast ready (with Eden in her arms, of course) and handed Eden the yellow top to a Medela bottle to hold while they walked into the dining room. She was putting Eden in her highchair when a point and an "Eh" were commissioned. So, rather than fighting a squirming infant, Ashley picked Eden up and let her "lead the way" to what she wanted. This time it was the empty Medela bottle sitting on the counter amidst lots of other stuff. After Ashley gave the "toy" to her, Eden began putting the top on and taking it off which continued for about 15 minutes (this is, in fact, one of her new favorite games so the 15 minutes is not figurative).

So, as the post suggests, Eden does know what she wants. Perhaps she has for a long while. In addition to her signs (milk, more, diaper change, hungry, dog, flower), she has a new tool for her toolbox ... pointing ... perhaps we'll be smart enough to listen and respond appropriately from now on!

As I wrote this, I began to think that Eden also points at us (and at other people) sometimes. Does this mean she wants us? I'd like to think so ... so it is so ... how sweet!
