This past week was like our own episode of House ... only much less entertaining. Eden started running a fever on Sunday (March 22nd), sometime around 2 or 3 am. On Monday, I took her to the doctor the first time. Ashley stayed home with Eden on Tuesday. Then, it was back to the doctor again on Wednesday. On Friday, they called to say that all tests had come back negative despite the fact that the fever was still sticking around. So, Ashley went in on Saturday morning (one week later) for another round of testing (since Eden had run a 104.6 fever on Friday, well Saturday at 2 am ... yikes).
The doctor ordered a flu test. Negative. Then a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia. Apparently the engineer who designs hospitals does not have kids. Ashely walked from building to building trying to find the right place ... and was directed back and forth until finally she got to the x-ray table.
Once at the table and undressed, Eden had to be on her back (which she hated at the moment), and she could not move (yeah right). Have you ever tried to hold a one-year-old down on a table with your own head away from the machine enough so as not to be in the way of the procedure? Ashley reports it is like no other challenge she's ever faced.
So the x-ray is done, and Ashley and Eden are in the waiting room with a nice flat screen playing HGTV. After a little "Myles of Style" and Eden falling asleep stretched out on the ottoman with her head resting in Ashley's lap, the technician came out with the report ... negative.
Okay. So she isn't sick? Could have fooled us!
Fast forward to Sunday morning. Temperature = 99.0. Temperament = playful. Although she was still coughing, we could tell she was MUCH better. Sunday night her temperature was below 99. Monday morning, a normal 98.4.
She went to PDO today. Although she was slighly reluctant to go to Ms. Marie and Ms. Delores at first, she managed to build up the courage. When I picked her up at two, she was crawling around and playing like she hadn't missed a beat. When we got home, she took a long nap. After she woke up and we went for a jog, she demonstrated the fact that her appetite was back ... in full force (3 servings of squash and corn by spoon then three servings of finger food!).
So all we needed was a chest x-ray? Go figure. Thank God for good insurance.
