On Thursday, July 2 we left Jackson on our way to Oxford, MS - home of Courtney and Britton Jones. We had planned to pack the car in a relatively leisurely fasion; however, Eden had other plans. Ashley and I both got showers, and Ashley packed the clothes while I got Eden's food in order. During this time, Eden's Granmommy-CC was entertaining her, trying to keep her awake so she would sleep for the entire 2.5 hour drive. That seemed to work for the most part. Once we were ready to load the car, Granmommy-CC started to put Eden's traveling clothes on. She noticed that Eden kept acting sleepy, and she tried her best to keep Eden awake. As soon as her clothes were on, however, Eden passed out ... literally, she just passed out - no pacifier, no lovie, nothing. Needless to say, we scurried to get the car loaded and get Eden into the car so we could get the most out of her nap. We managed to do so in record time and were on the road by 12:15.
Eden slept nearly the entire way and woke up just in time to visit Courtney at her work. After we made the tour of Courtney's office and heard how cute Eden was from all her co-workers, we made the short drive to Uncle Britton's office.
At first, Eden was reticent about going to her Uncle Britton ...

... but after Ashley said, "He'll take you around the office," she was his!
After tours of the offices, we stopped by Kroger on our way to Courtney and Britton's new house. They live in a cute little red barn ... don't ask me, it's all the rage in Mississippi ... that is complete with a vegetable garden (hence the cucumber and blueberry - yes, both singular).
Okay, so they don't live in the barn., but it sure is cool. They live in a currently-being-renovated house that we had the pleasure of contributing to by installing a new wooden ceiling in the kitchen. They've already done a lot of work including taking down a wall to create a large opening between the "formal front living room" and "back den," moving a load-bearing wall, removing kitchen cabinets, having new wiring installed, ... you get the picture.
While Britton and I were inside making the place dusty and playing with nail guns, Ashley, Eden, and Courtney primarily hung out on the back porch. One of Eden's favorite games was to come up to the window and say hey.

She also realized a fondness for playing hide-and-seek ...
You can see in the reflection where she'd rather be. Their backyard was perfect - very large with lots of new things to investigate.

On the inside, the back two bedrooms are finished (for now), which meant that Ashley did not have to brave the 100 degree heat during the middle of the day.
On Saturday, the girls made a trip to downtown Oxford where Eden got to shop at Square Books, Jr. after some fun at the farmers' market. Square Books, jr. is mainly a kids' bookstore, but it also has lots of fun toys!
Meanwhile, Britton and I finished installing the kitchen ceiling, after which we all took Popeye's friend chicken and biscuits to the Grove for the town's celebration.
Eden (adorned in her AJB original 4th dress) was all smiles as she walked around and said hello to everyone she could.

Overall, it was a fun long weekend - there was work, play, and fried chicken. Who could ask for more? Before we went, Ashley and I had been talking about how it would be fun to make Oxford on the 4th a family tradition. Then we thought that might mean that Eden could grow up wanting to go to Ole Miss ... not sure how we feel about that. In any case, the weekend was fun, and we are looking forward to visiting again soon.
