An interesting story about my mom ... we told my family we were pregnant on a trip to Mobile during August of 2007. We wrapped pictures from our recent trip to Europe for each of them and had everyone open their picture except for my Mom. When all had opened their various pictures, it was Mom's turn. She unwrapped the picture ... looked at it (a picture of me and Ashley at Hyde Park in London) ... and was told to turn it over where there was a creative "Mastercard-like" script she had to read out loud for everyone:
Trip to Europe ... $5,000
Fancy new camera ... $350
Printing this photo at Target ... 14 cents
Telling you there are actually 3 people in this photograph ...
priceless.
She looked at the poem, at us, back at the poem, flipped the picture over, again looked at us, then at the poem. "I don't get it," she said. Everyone else in the room had understood (since she read the poem out-loud). It took my sister Ashley to say, "Are ya pregnant?" before the yelling and crying ensued.
She was SOOOO excited, and this is supported by the fact that the next day, after the crying and hugging lightened, my mom came home from work for lunch with an important decision ... she had spent a large part of her morning Googling grandmother names and fell in love with "Nona." I suppose this is a common phenomenon? That is, for grandmothers to go crazy over their first grandchild? Ashley and I are both very much looking forward to Eden growing up and getting to know her Nona and her Aunt Sarah even better.
So it is no surprise, given this sort of a reaction, that my Mom could not wait to hold and begin to spoil her first granddaughter. We weren't home more than 30 minutes when she was showered with pink presents galore ... until this point, since we did not know her biological sex all gifts were of "neutral" color - our house has since taken on a unique shade of pinkness from all the gifts Eden has received.
Here is a video of the Bodie reaction...
Waiting on Nona and Aunt Sarah...

Since Nona would not let go of Eden :), I had to borrow a child from some friends to make sure I got in enough holding practice (thanks to Michael and Stacey for providing Ethan).
