We left Baton Rouge on Thursday, May 14th on our vacation. After spending a night in Mobile and a night in Andalusia [**Ashley is tearing up right now because she just realized the Andalusia pictures were accidentally deleted from the camera, leaving her without "the cutest picture of Eden walking out of the hardware pushing on the glass door" "and playing with Aunt Denise and the cousins" "and walking around Big Daddy & Mama II's garden" ... guess it was going to happen some time**], we were off to Destin, Florida for three nights on the beach.

Pretty much simultaneously, Eden decided it was time to finally walk ... good thing there was a long pier leading from the house to the beach.

In fact, she pointed A LOT toward the beach ... and grunted ... and pointed ... until, inevitably, someone obliged.

She loved the water (at a distance) and all the new sights and sounds.
And we loved her cute new bathing suit! (Thank you CC and Granddaddy!)

When she wasn't down on the sand, she was pretending to be ...

And who could blame her?
One of my fondest memories as a child was of my father fishing from the beach (and eating the Pompano he caught). It was fun to relive those memories and be old enough to share in the fun.
[*Editor's Note: I was so excited to catch these two photos. Graham didn't know I took them and was really pleased when he saw them.]

Another fond memory is learning to play Spades ... my mom wasn't so thrilled that the student has become the master ...
Of course, we're also excited about creating new memories and traditions with Eden. Perhaps she'll remember acting silly with Daddy ...
... or playing peek-a-boo with her Big Daddy ...

...or figuring out where the shoe goes ...

... or the fact that her first ice eating experience was instigated by her Nonna. That one was, perhaps, more for our entertainment than for her enjoyment. At this point in the trip, Eden was running a pretty constant fever. Not feeling good, it is no surprise that she was not eating well. So, if she wanted something, she got it. One afternoon she kept pointing at Nona's cup. So, Nona took out a piece of ice, bit it into pieces, and started feeding Eden. After a funny face and a double take at what she was consuming, it was like ice was what she had been missing her entire life. She
loved it! And for about a day, she couldn't get enough of it ... grabbing a piece every time she passed by someone who would offer it to her.

Early one evening, we had some visitors ... Sarah's friend, Lauren, and Lauren's parents, Pam and Larry Batchelor, who live down the street from our rental.

It was interesting that Eden, once again, seemed to know that the Batchelor family was only there for a little while. As with her
Aunt Beverly a few short weeks before, Eden would go up to Pam and Lauren every few minutes and give them hugs.

All that playing sure does make one tired ... in her unique way, Ashley captured some of the rare moments of stillness in our three day beach trip.
Overall, the beach trip was amazing ... by the last day on the beach, Eden was brave enough to throw little "rocks" of driftwood into the ocea while being held in her Momma's arms. We're very glad to have been able to make this visit an important part of our recent whirlwind vacation.
We left Destin around 7:00 am on Tuesday (May 19) on our way to Eden's CC's retirement party. Eden kept waving and waving to her Nonna and Big Daddy from inside the car as we got her strapped in. She acted quite sad when it was time to say bye bye.
On the way to Mississippi, we stopped by my parents' place to let Aunt Sarah check out Eden's ears and listen to her breathe (by this time she had run a fever for a few days, pretty happy for the most part but her fever spiked enough a few times to scare us and keep us monitoring her closely per the doctor's orders). Perhaps the high energy and gotta swing attitude should have signaled she was okay ... but her checkup was also positive.

For the next leg of the trip, we were headed to Mississippi. More on that to come later ...
