May Travels: Making our way home

On Friday of our big trip, Eden woke us up around 5:45 a.m. (15 minutes before our alarm was set to go off). After breakfast and saying bye bye to her new BFF Syndey and her parents, we were on our way to Indy. Perhaps Eden was just ready to get onto an airplane ...

When we got to the airport and made our way through security, Eden was eager to walk around, play, and say hello to most everyone. Then, she noticed my hat. She had lots of fun taking it off my head, putting it on her head, then taking it off and giving it bad to Daddy ... rinse and repeat!

She also had loads of fun riding the moving sidewalk. Although we could not capture a picture of it, her eyes got very big when I put her down on it and she noticed we were moving while standing still. It took a while, but she did finally realize that you can't hold onto the side while moving ... you fall down.

For lunch (in the Detroit airport ... as a side note, why in the world did we have to go through Detroit on our way from Indiana to Mississippi. Has Delta looked at a US map recently?), we headed to the Japanese restaurant for sushi. Sushi in the airport? Yep. It was actually quite good. It was here that Eden tried tempura vegetables for the first time ... she loved them! And she loved the rice, too.

Oh, did I mention that SHE ATE WITH CHOPSTICKS! She kept pointing to them, so we figured - why not? We took them out of the package, put them in her hand, and she took to it like a fish to water. Okay, maybe not that well, but it was impressive watching her put the chopsticks into the rice then putting the rice into her mouth. We did leave the chopsticks stuck together, but there was a young man sitting behind us that we caught out of the corners of our eyes smiling at her newfound ability ... so we weren't the only ones impressed.

After 2.5 hours in the Detroit airport, we were finally on the plane headed for Jackson. Unfortunately, it was a 1.75 hour trip ... Ashely and I were both a little nervous. As we took off, Eden had a bottle. Then, she got sleepy. She went from Daddy to Momma to Daddy to Momma and finally she fell asleep in my arms FOR THE WHOLE PLANE RIDE! Wow! For the first 45 minutes or so she slept on my chest. Then, as she started to wiggle and act like she would wake up we transferred her to my lap and put a blanket over her ... like a charm! She did not wake up until the pilot came over the intercom and said, "Folks. We are making our final decent into Jackson. We'll be on the ground in 15 minutes." I guess she heard him and knew she was about to see her Granddaddy and CC.

Of course the next day before we headed out for Louisiana, we had to get pictures of the new big girl who had flown in a plane and made it seem like no big deal. Ashley said, "E-d-e-n, okay, ready" for both of these photos ,and she smiled both times. No kidding. It was weird.

We also need to report the newest addition to Eden's family. As we were driving from the airport to Cracker Barrell for my birthday dinner with Granddaddy and CC, CC became Grandmommy. We suggested "Missima" (short for Mississippi Momma), but Ashley confided that I was secretly hoping to teach Eden to say it with a Japanese accent ... oh well ... apparently, Eden's granddaddy, although attempting to say CC for over a year now, cannot utter those two letters in reference to Christy. So, we'll try this new name out and see if it sticks. Eden now had a Granddaddy and Grandmommy ... she was relieved by the fact that we had a name ... and fell asleep ...

So, we're back in good-ol' LA, soaking up the sun and having our sweat not evaporate. We enjoyed our time away and are definitely ready for our staycation ... we won't travel anywhere until the last weekend in June, for a family wedding. If you want, however, you can come visit - until next time, God Bless!
